What Hertfordshire Ground Conditions Mean for Your Build

Much of east Hertfordshire sits on London Clay and boulder clay, which shrinks and swells with the seasons. That dictates foundation depth and reinforcement, especially near mature trees. Closer to the Lea and Stort you'll hit made ground and high water tables, so dewatering and proper drainage design earn their keep. We factor all of it into the dig before it becomes a problem.

Chris and the team have delivered groundworks for water treatment, energy and commercial schemes right across the county and the wider East of England. The mix of utility-spec work and standard construction means we adapt to whatever the spec demands. Twenty years of finished sites behind us.

Common questions

Questions about Civils & Groundworks in Hertfordshire

Answers to the questions we are asked most.

How much do groundworks cost in Hertfordshire?

It depends entirely on the dig, the muck away and the foundation spec. Smaller commercial bases might start around 8,000 to 15,000, while full civils packages on utility sites run well into six figures. We quote off drawings and a site visit, never guesswork.

Do you charge a call-out fee for groundworks in Hertfordshire?

No call-out fee. Chris will come and look at the site and price the work for free.

Can you deal with clay and high water tables on Hertfordshire sites?

Yes. We design foundations and drainage around the ground we find, including dewatering on wet sites near the river valleys. Where clay needs deeper or reinforced footings, we build to the engineer's spec.

How long does a groundworks package take?

A small commercial base can be a week or two, larger civils packages run several weeks to months. We give you a realistic programme once we've seen the drawings.

Are you qualified for utility-sector groundworks?

We hold Achilles UVDB, SafeContractor and EUSR qualifications, which are required for most utility supply chain contracts. That means we can work on water, energy and infrastructure sites that exclude unregistered contractors.

Which areas near Hertfordshire do you cover for groundworks?

We're based in Buntingford and cover Royston, Bishop's Stortford, Hertford, Ware and Stevenage, plus the wider East of England for utility work. If you're a bit further out, give us a call and we'll let you know.
